Music has become atonal since around 1900 and continues to this day. However, there is also a trend that opposes the atonalization of music. This is the revival of early music, and the starting point of these two trends is the same functional harmony. One seeks to distance itself from tonality, while the other aims to deepen it. Even today, in the 21st century, there are very few who aim to create new works along the latter trend.
